KINDERDANCE is an introduction to dance for the pre-school - kindergarten age dancer. Music and Song is incorporated with basic Ballet and Tap dance steps taught through fun and games. We work on the large motor skills, basic ballet positions, pointed and flexed feet. Children make new friends, learn to cooperate with others and participate in group activities as they learn behavior skills and much more. An exciting way to introduce a pre-school age child to the wonderful world of DANCE ! Students must be 3 by September 1 AND potty trained.
COMBO I & II is for the beginning or
continuing student. Students learn the
basics of ballet, as they gain poise, posture and grace. Tap rhythmics are very helpful at this age.
Children learn how to count music, they are reinforced by sounds they make,
and they learn how their movements fit into music. This is a great starter class as it gives
the student a taste of each dance form for preference and skill level.
BALLET Our classical ballet program was designed to bring training of the highest artistic standards to our students. Classes stress proper body placement and use of the terminology - the special language of Ballet. Students are given a lengthy barre to establish proper body alignment, turnout and increase foot and ankle strength. Since the fundamentals of all major dance forms come from Ballet, it's study is recommended for all serious dance students.
TAP is for anyone who has been excited by the syncopated rhythms of a tap dancer's feet, we have a class for you. From the earliest part of the century when tap stars topped vaudeville marquees and flappers filled the Broadway stage, to the MGM movie classics with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers gliding across the screen, to Gregory Hines, Savion Glover, or Tommy Tune filling a stage today with their marvelous sounds, tap dancing remains part of the American culture. We help keep this American art form ‘alive and well' with classes for Beginners to Advanced levels for children and adults.
JAZZ is the current dancing you see on MTV,
and in Broadway Musicals like Fosse and Chorus Line. Jazz also takes on the new movement of our time as in the
current "hip-hop" style. Our warm-up technique section of each
class works on alignment, strength and flexibility. Dance combinations are
filled with the contemporary movements our dancers love; Jazz classes also
stress turning and leapings.
HIP HOP is the culture from which rap
emerged. Initially it consisted of four main elements; graffiti art, break
dancing, dj (cuttin' and scratching) and emceeing (rapping). Hip hop is a
lifestyle with its own language, style of dress, music and mind set that is
continuously evolving. Our version of hip hop includes jazz and street funk
dancing.
ACROBATICS teaches flexibility, balance,
muscle control, and develops upper body strength as well as overall
strength. Basic tumbling skills and
partnering tricks are taught with careful, quality instruction. It is an excellent way to learn spatial
awareness, an important element in partnering and ensemble work and can best
be compared to the acrobatic style of Cirque Du Soleil. This class is an optional course in the All Around Dancer
Program.
STRETCH, LEAPS & TURNS
focuses on increasing a dancer's flexibility and
mobility with proper warm-up and deep stretching, in addition to increasing a
dancer's stamina, strength and repertoire of performance skills. Students will learn different leaps and
jumps with the use of proper abdominal support and body control and a variety
of turns focusing on using proper alignment and their 'center.' This will give the dancer a substantial
advantage in today's demanding choreography.
MUSICAL THEATRE & ACTING classes invite
each student to work as a part of an ensemble. Through warm ups, group work,
and performance assignments, students explore the creative use of body and
voice, developing a sense of confidence in front of others. The class climate
is safe, fun, and dynamic. Games are designed to heighten kinesthetic
awareness and strengthen listening skills.
Our curriculum includes: introductory activities, speech, verbal
dynamics, creative movement, language development, structured improvisation,
dialogue development, snippets, scene starters, mini-scripts, workshop
presentations, and end of year productions
